Must read

Angry youths from Konshisha local government area of Benue State have allegedly buried two persons alive over accusations of witchcraft. The victims, Henry Ihwakaa, his wife, and two-week-old child were reportedly affected by a thunder strike, which the youths attributed to Mr Ihwakaa’s alleged witchcraft activities.

According to reports, the youths mobilized and attacked Mr Ihwakaa and his alleged collaborator, dug a shallow grave and buried them alive. An eyewitness, Engr Baba Agan, revealed that the matter was reported to the police in Konshisha local government area, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilized his men to the scene of the incident.

However, upon arrival, the police team discovered that the victims had already died in the shallow grave and their bodies were exhumed. The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and disclosed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the act while investigation was ongoing.

It is important to note that jungle justice is not a solution to any disagreement, and individuals who are accused of crimes should be handed over to the appropriate authorities for investigation and necessary action. This act of violence is a clear violation of human rights and should be condemned by all well-meaning individuals.

It is essential for the government and community leaders to sensitize their citizens on the need to seek legal redress instead of resorting to violence. The security agencies should also ensure that the culprits are brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others. We call on all stakeholders to work together towards building a peaceful and just society
