Obi urges FG to evacuate 4000 Nigerians in war-torn Sudan to safety

Must read

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the federal government to expedite efforts to evacuate around 4000 Nigerians, mostly students, from war-torn Sudan. In a series of tweets, he expressed concern about the reported tapping of some Nigerian citizens in Sudan and questioned why they had not yet been evacuated. Obi highlighted that the Sudanese crisis is not a sudden natural disaster, and losing any Nigerian to the conflict would be regrettable, especially during Nigeria’s pursuit of a New Nigeria.

Obi pleaded with the Federal Government of Nigeria to act with more deserving proactiveness and commitment to protect Nigerians, both at home and abroad. He emphasized that the FGN has a statutory responsibility to safeguard its citizens, and every Nigerian’s life is sacred and crucial. The need to create and sustain a New Nigeria makes it imperative for the government to prioritize the safety and welfare of Nigerians, according to the LP presidential candidate.

Obi also celebrated the Eid El Fitr holiday with the Muslim community in Anambra State, where he shared in their joys and festivities. The former governor recounted how he rebuilt a burnt mosque and provided maximum security for the Muslim community during a crisis that erupted in the state in 2006. Obi reiterated that every Nigerian should be free to live and thrive freely in any part of the nation.

Additionally, Obi sent birthday greetings to a seven-year-old boy, Richard Aridegbe, from Surulere, Lagos, who had invited him to his birthday celebration. The young boy is the son of the LP woman leader in Surulere, Lagos, and campaigned for Peter Obi and LP during the elections. Although Obi could not attend the event in person, he sent his best wishes to the young Aridegbe and believes that his message will inspire more young people who are instinctively Obidient and socially conscious.

Peter Obi urges the federal government to prioritize the safety and welfare of Nigerians in war-torn Sudan and take immediate action to evacuate them to safety. He also highlights the need for a New Nigeria where every Nigerian can live and thrive freely.
