FG plans evacuation of Nigerian students in Sudan amidst ongoing hostilities

Must read

The Federal Government of Nigeria is making arrangements to evacuate Nigerian students in Sudan as the country continues to experience hostilities between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have resulted in deaths and destruction over the past few days. The violence poses a serious threat to the lives of foreigners in the country.

The Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, expressed her concern over the situation and assured that the Commission has received a letter of solicitation from the National Association of Nigerian Students in Sudan for possible evacuation, especially those in the capital city of Khartoum. She further stated that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), responsible for emergency evacuations, is in consultation with the Nigerian mission in Sudan and other relevant agencies.

The violence erupted over disagreements on how to integrate the RSF into the army as Sudan prepares for a new political dispensation following the overthrow of long-serving leader Omar al-Bashir.

The NIDCOM boss urged all Nigerian students and citizens living in Sudan to remain calm and security conscious amidst the ongoing hostilities. As the situation remains fluid, the Federal Government is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens in Sudan.

As the crisis in Sudan continues to escalate, the evacuation of Nigerian students and citizens in the country is a crucial step towards ensuring their safety. The Federal Government’s swift response to this situation is commendable, and NEMA’s consultation with relevant agencies in Sudan is a sign of proactive planning.

The Nigerian Government’s commitment to the safety and security of its citizens, both at home and abroad, is commendable. The ongoing efforts to evacuate Nigerian students in Sudan is a clear demonstration of this commitment, and we hope that this will help to ensure the safety and well-being of these individuals amidst the ongoing crisis in Sudan
