The All Progressives Party (APP) has filed a petition at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the victory of Mr Tinubu, the winner of the February presidential election, alleging fraudulent practices in 11 states. The party claims that the results in the states were falsified and that the INEC officials looked the other way while over-voting was taking place. APP also alleged that the results were transmitted illegally and that Tinubu was not elected by the majority of lawful votes.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Emeka Ozoani, a senior lawyer, argued that Tinubu engaged in vote-buying in many states and that voters who refused his inducements were barred from voting. The APP’s petition also claimed that Tinubu falsely claimed to have attended certain schools. The petition raised the issue of age and educational qualifications, alleging that Tinubu knowingly failed to state the schools he attended, which he earlier under oath claimed to have obtained relevant certificates from.

The party accused the electoral officials of falsifying, altering, and mutilating the election results from the various polling units in the states mentioned above, thereby giving Tinubu a substantial lead and advantage in the various states. APP’s petition contended that Tinubu should not have been “returned elected as the president-elect” because of the alleged widespread irregularities.

APP’s petition also claimed that the results were transmitted illegally, and the electoral umpire “failed to comply with the law and instead adopted an illegal process of manual collation and transmission of the election results.” The petitioner argued that INEC “has a bounden statutory obligation to transmit all the results electronically and to upload same into the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV)…” instead of complying with the guidelines and regulations on electronic results transmission.
