Nigerian Idol Season 8: D’banj, Simi, Obi Asika return as judges

The eighth season of Nigerian Idol, which premieres on April 23, 2023, will feature D’banj, Simi, and Obi Asika as judges. MultiChoice Nigeria, the leading entertainment company, announced the return of the show and the judges at a media launch held at its Lagos studio.

IK Osakioduwa will return as the show’s host, while Obi Asika will be a judge for the third season. Superstar singer Simi and award-winning entertainer D’banj will return for the second time. The eighth season recorded a substantial increase in participants’ entries during the auditions, and fans can expect hilarious and beautiful performances from upcoming superstars.

The show will air from April 23 till May 21, with auditions and theatre week, while the live shows will begin on May 28 and end on July 16, 2023.

Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, explained that Nigerian Idol offers talented Nigerian artists the platform to showcase their skills and rise to fame through hard work and dedication. She added that the judges, vocal coaches, production team, and choreographers provide mentorship to participants and a chance to hone their skills in readiness for their contracts.

Simi emphasized the need for contestants to possess a great work ethic and passion for their work, while Obi Asika expressed his excitement about the special people who will be on the show this season.

Nigerian Idol is a platform designed to showcase exceptional Nigerian voices to a global audience and provide participants with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The show has produced prominent musicians in Nigeria, such as Timi Dakolo, Mercy Chinwo, Kingdom, Progress, and Omawumi, who have made a name for themselves in the local and global music scenes. The goal is to produce another superstar at the end of this season.
