APC’s loss in Abia: Group asks leadership to apologise to Ogah

Must read

A southeast political group, Progressive Youths for Development Initiative (PYfDI), has asked the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to tender unreserved apology to the former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, for the ill-treatment and open encouragement of illegalities meted to him after the concluded 2022 gubernatorial primary election held in Abia state.

Recall that Dr. Ogah had on 26th May 2022, won the Abia Gubernatorial seat ticket of the APC defeating the immediate past Pro-chancellor and the chairman of the Governing Board Council of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu State, Mr Ikechi Emenike, Alex Otti, Paul Ikonne and rest of others.

However, Progressive Youths for Development Initiative, in a statement issued on Thursday, against the poor performances of the APC in last Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abia State, hinged its demand on the party leadership to apologize to the former Nigerian minister, Uche Ogah, on the deliberate and wrongful substitution of the latter’s name and details, as the duly elected APC Gubernatorial candidate in the state, with that of the state factional party leader, Mr Ikechi Emenike, who according to the group, allegedly connived with disgruntled national officers of the party to execute the then broad daylight stealing of the latter’s mandate which majority of party members across the 184 local ward of the 17 local government areas in the state overwhelmingly entrusted to him.

The organization also opined the poor outing and abysmal performances of  APC in the recently conducted presidential and national assembly elections held in Abia State by the Nigeria electoral commission, has further vindicated its earlier opposition against the choice of Mr Ikechi Emenike as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the coming march 11th 2023 Governorship election in  Abia state which was predicated on the unpopularity and non-acceptability of Emenike’s political bid by the people of the state dated since 2003.

It noted that Emenike has never in his political history delivered political parties he was registered as a member in any electioneering year, adding that this particular incapability demonstrated by him has been the major reason his ambition to become governor of Abia State has continued to elude him.

“Records have revealed Mr Ikechi Emenike, as a member of the governing All Progressives Congress in Nigeria since 2015, failed to deliver the first Governorship candidate of the APC, Nyerere Anyim in his Umukabia Ohuhu ward in Umuahia North LGA, wherein he was mercilessly beaten to beyond recovery by the PDP. Apart from his incapability, Emenike failed to convince and woo Abia people into accepting APC as a party to reckon with against obvious leadership failure and misrule by the Government of the ruling PDP. This and many other misdemeanors exhibited by these maverick Abia politicians led to President Muhammadu Buhari’s poor performances in Abia state during 2015 presidential elections

“During the last 2019 general elections in the country, the unpopular and infamous Ikechi Emenike also failed to deliver President Buhari in his Ohuhu ward in Umuahia north LGA and the state as a whole. He equally failed woefully to secure a win for the APC Gubernatorial flagbearer in Abia state and our ebullient former minister of the federal republic of Nigeria, Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah (OON) and all other candidates of the party during the concluded elections in the state.

“It is highly regrettable that this same character who self-styled himself as 2023  Governorship candidate of the APC in Abia state has repeated and demonstrated same failure and lack of capacity to deliver the APC presidential candidate, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all other national assembly candidates of the party in his ohuhu electoral ward, local government and the state(Abia) in Saturday 25th February 2023 conducted by INEC.

Continuing, the group posited that the APC leadership shot itself on the leg in Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections by deliberately denied Uche Ogah, which it further insisted is rightful party candidate and owner of the Abia governorship seat ticket of the APC after a well-conducted direct primary elections held across the wards and local government areas in Abia State.

According to PYfDI, “APC shot itself on the leg, because it abandoned its internal electoral rules, directive on adoption of direct mode of primary election, and as wells as relevant provisions of the constitution of the land, for mediocrity, incapability, and incompetence as demonstrated by Mr Ikechi Emenike and co-travelers.

While urging the party leadership to tender apology to the foremost Abia-born industrialist and the Abia leader of the All Progressives Congress, the Pro-democracy group described Dr Uche Ogah as the only genuine route and people’s hope for genunue Abia’s economic recovery and rejuvenation, Infrastructural development, human empowerment and massive industrialization.

The group appealed to former minister to forgive the leadership of the All Progressives Congresd for the open illegalities meted out to him and majority of party members, supporters and as well, entire people of Abia state during and after the conducted 2022 APC primaries held in the state.

“We plead to Dr Uche Ogah to forgive the party leadership for the sins and bad maltreatment the APC national leadership did to him. Truth has prevailed against evils perpetrated by the party national officers. Ikechi Emenike’s lack of show of capacity has deprived Abia APC of victory in the yet-to-be-concluded presidential and national assembly elections by INEC.”
