Just a few days to the gubernatorial in Imo state, gunmen set ablaze the country home of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Okigwe state constituency, Ifeanyi Ozoemena and the house of the politician’s father, Pa Ozoemena both in Umuokparaoha village in Umulolo community in the Okigwe local government area of Imo State.

The lawmaker hopeful told reporters that the gunmen arrived at about 2pm and threw in explosives into both houses and stood to ensure it was completely razed before leaving.

Ozoemena said “They struck at about 2pm, set the houses on fire and supervised the burning. The two houses and the properties got destroyed in the attack. They operated unchallenged. My only consolation is that my aged parents were not around when they struck”.

He called on the state commissioner of Police, to unmask the arsonists and help restore peace to the area.

Okigwe local government had come under various attacks since 2022 from gunmen, involving criminal activities, which has forced many to abscond the area.

Just last month, gunmen razed down the homes of the Imo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Chief Emeka Okoronkwo; a predecessor, Prof Nnamdi Obiaraeri; a Labour Party chieftain, Dr Nnaemeka Obiaraeri; a retired Director of Department of Security Service, Nnaemeka Ngwu; the Director General of the campaign organisation of the Labour Party candidate for Okigwe North Federal Constituency, Okey Unam all in Ihube community in the Okigwe local government area of Imo state.
