Political parties stage walk-out, insist on electronic transmission of results

Must read

All Nigerian political parties, apart from the All Progressives Congress, APC, have insisted that the results of the presidential elections being collated in Abuja’s International Conference Centre, ICC, should be put on hold until the issue of the failure of the electronic transmission by the BVAS is addressed.

The Political parties in unison insisted that going on with the collation and announcement of the result will put the entire process to question.

While the entire political parties agreed with the suggestions, only the APC agreed that the election should continue.

Reacting after an appeal by the civil society organizations, the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu insisted that the process must continue, while also making clarifications on the alleged over-voting in Ekiti State. He insisted that there was no over-voting in Ekiti State.

The INEC boss also insisted that the figures are consistent with what were collated from the polling units. He, however, stated that if any political party has a contrary report, it should be forwarded to the commission.

The INEC Chairman promised to address all issues only if the process is concluded.

After the Chairman’s announcements, all the political parties’ agents staged a walk-out.
