Another storm of defections has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State where no fewer than 200 members of the party have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The defectors, who are from Ugwu Udunta village in Izzi Local Government Areas of the state, including a former youth leader of the party who is the leader of the defectors, Emmanuel Jeff Emenike while other heavyweights of the APC and others also defected to PDP.
Jeff Emenike, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, alleged that they dumped the ruling APC over leadership failure and the inability of its government to ward off insecurity and economic challenges affecting residents of the state and fellow Nigerians.
He argued that the APC-led government in the state lacks managerial principles and approaches that would usher in democratic dividends to rural residents that will relieve their plights and bring intended governance to the state.
Receiving the defectors, the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, said if voted as governor of the state this year, he would revive the security sectors, Create wealth, and rebuild small and medium enterprises in the state.
He lamented that Ebonyi State border town has been having security challenges, and urged that when he becomes a Governor, he will fix it within 100 days in office.
According to him, “Commercial activities of the Ebonyi community have been crippled because of the bad leadership and approaches of the APC government in the state and at the national level.
“When we come to power by May by His grace, we will ensure that Ebonyi state returns to its past glory as the salt of the nation we are known for.”
The Director General of Anyi Chuks campaign organization, Hon. Austin Igwe Ede Eze, said: “We received 200 APC and members today (Friday) into our great party the PDP. The defectors are from Izzi Local Government Area
The Campaign DG further assured defectors of “fair play that the party is known for over the years.”
He urged them to work hard and woo other APC supporters into the PDP fold for the success of the party in the forthcoming general election.
