The Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has awarded a N1.2b water work project in New Bussa,Borgu local government area of Niger state to contractors with strong warning to execute according to specifications or face revocation.
The Managing Director Commission Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa represented by the director Community and Rural Development Directorate, Dr Mahmud Mohammed Uma made this known during the handing over of contracts to contractors in New Bussa.
He explained that the contract is for the total over hauling and reticulation of New Bussa town and environs water works, which has suffered over twenty years of water scarcity.
Sadiq Yelwa stated that the contract is for a duration of 6 months for its completion, but warned the contractors to ensure contract specifications to ensure value for money or face revocation.
He said,” this project is critical to communities of this area, therefore, we are charging you to support and take ownership to ensure optimal results”.
The Niger State Managing Director, Water and Siwage Cooperation, represented by Gimba Isah in his speech said the project would provide quality portable water to people of New Bussa town, and urged them to support of the project.
Borgu local government chairman, Suleiman Yerima appreciate the kind gesture of HYPPADEC, noting that the community has suffered over the years following the decayed and development while calling on water consumers to ensure prompt payment of their water rates to ensure sustainability.
The Emir of Borgu Alhaji Mohammed Sani Dantoro represented by the Wazirin Borgu, Alhaji Bala Sa’adu in his remarks appreciated the commission for the actualization and intervention to end their long hardship of water scarcity.
