$53m judgment debt: Court adjourns suit against CBN Governor

The summon of the Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, by the Federal High Court Abuja over a $53 million judgement debt on the Paris Club refund, has been adjourned to March 20.

No reason has been given so far for the adjournment.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Xourt Abuja had Summoned him on October 20, last year following an application for garnishee made by a senior advocate of Nigeria, Joe Agi who is the judgment creditor.

The court granted the application and ordered Emefiele to appear in court on Wednesday, January 18.

The dispute was about an alleged $70 million judgment against Linas International Ltd for the lawyer’s (Joe Agi) assistance with the Paris Club refund.

Emefiele was said to have only released $17 million, and could not account for the balance of $53 million.
