Hundreds of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) including Obingwa local Government executive committee members of the party in Abia south senatorial district of Abia State have defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in solidarity with the senatorial bid of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
The defectors were led into the Abia chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party by a former Abia south zonal chairman of the APC, Deacon Orji Chikezirim, and the ex-APC woman leader in Abia south senatorial zone, Mrs Adaku Abel, alongside with Local government area executive committee members of the opposition APC in the state.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s senatorial bid election campaign held at Ahaba School field in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state at the weekend, the former Abia south zonal chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Orji Chikezirim hinged on their decision on the visible giant developmental strides recorded by the governor which they posited has given every stratum of the state an economic facelift.
“Ikpeazu has redefined leadership thereby endearing him to his teaming supporters, pointing out that their exit from the party marks the downfall of APC in the area, “according to the APC defectors.
Receiving the decampees on behalf of the Abia chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Ibe Nwadioha assured the new party members of equal rights and privileges being enjoyed by members, as the party state officer further added that PDP is big enough to accommodate everyone.
Earlier in his speech during the event, the Governor of Abia state and Peoples Democratic Party Senatorial candidate for Abia south district for the February national assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu also hinted his ambition to be elected as senator of the federal republic of Nigeria is predicated on the yearning of the people of zone for a change of the narratives in legislative representation of Abia south in the senate by mainstreaming the welfare of women, youths and children in the Senatorial district.
He also posited that his stewardship in the past seven years will definitely guarantee his victory come 25th February, and further added it is the culture of his people to reward handwork.
The frontline Abia south senatorial seat ticket-bearer of the PDP expressed his profound appreciation to the entire people of Obingwa local government area for having implicit confidence in him and admonished them to cast their votes for him and the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Abia state, Professor Uchenna Ikonne in the coming national assembly and governorship elections across the state by Nigeria’s electoral commission.
