Controversy has trailed the trending reports that gunmen allegedly attacked a hospital in Nkpologwu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State and abducted four newborn babies.

The incident which was said to have happened at Stanley Hospital on Wednesday has been described as fake by members of the community.

The story had it that the unknown gunmen, suspected to be ritualists invaded the hospital and abducted four newborn babies and also made away with some blood-stained delivery wrappers belonging to some of the women who newly put to bed in the hospital.

While many described the reports as a rumour from the pit of hell, others said they were mere attempts by some mischief makers to create unnecessary tension and panic in the state.

According to a source from the community, “Disregard this rumor, please. I just confirmed that it’s all lies. I called someone from the village who told me she went there immediately she heard the news, because she has someone who recently put to bed in the hospital. She told me it’s a lie, as nothing like that happened there.

Another resident, Blessing Okeke said, “I don’t know what people gain from creating and spreading this kind of traumatic rumour around. Nothing like that happened.”

In his reaction, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that he is unaware of such information.

He further advised people to desist from creating unnecessary panic and tension in the state, especially through spreading such unconfirmed information that has strong authenticity questions.

Effort to reach the traditional ruler of the community, HRH, Igwe Moses Obijikwa Okpalanwaka failed.
