Promote national integration during service year, NYSC Ag. D-G charges corps members

Must read

The Acting Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Christy Uba, has urged corps members to utilise the opportunity of their service year to promote national integration.

Uba said this at the swearing-in of corps members in the 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream II deployed to Imo, held at the permanent orientation camp, Eziama Obaire in Nkwerre Local Government Area of the state, on Tuesday.

The Ag. D-G, represented by the NYSC Co-ordinator in Imo, Mrs Rachael Idaewor, said that in spite of the country’s challenges, her unity and cohesion remained sacrosanct.

She enjoined the corps members to acquaint themselves with the provisions of the NYSC Act and the Bye-Laws, adding that this would guide their conduct during the service year as well as have a significant influence on their post-service life.

Uba also urged the corps members to avoid the negative use of the social media, particularly to spread fake news, but rather to use it for the promotion of national unity and development.

“Nigeria’s unity and integration must not be traded for anything. I enjoin you to use your service year to embrace national cohesion through your words and actions”, the Ag. D-G said.

She further urged the corps members to avail themselves of the opportunities for self-employment provided through the Scheme’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

Uba said that the programme was directed towards empowering corps members with relevant skills, create wealth and jobs so as to be able to contribute their quota to national development.

She also seized the opportunity to thank the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), state and federal Ministries of Health, security agencies, traditional rulers, employers of corps members and other stakeholders for their support and assistance.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the highpoint of the event was the taking of the Oath of Allegiance by the 1,000 new corps members led by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Theresa Chikeka, represented by Justice L.C. Alinnor. (NAN)
