Must read

The Advocate for Peoples’ Rights and Justice (APRJ), a Non-Governmental Organization, has petitioned the Nigeria Police and a Navy over alleged violations of the fundamental rights of several Kogi indigenes by their personnel.

In letters signed by its coordinator, Victor Giwa, dated October 27, 2022, the APRJ called for the removal of some officers of the Police and Navy over their alleged involvement in the forced disappearance, abductions and killings of the Kogi indigenes for political reasons in the state.

According to the letter, victims are Abdulazeez Salami (2017); Hon. Musa Adelabu, Monday Idowu, Ismaila Momoh, Rufai Jimoh and Kashim Ismaila (2021); Abdulfatah Tuhari and Hadi Abdulmaliki (2022).

The NGO alleged that the officers, a former commander of the IGP Quick Response Unit, and the Navy Special Force, both in Kogi state and their team were allegedly used by some politicians in the state as the tool for the abduction, “maiming and killing of the political opponents and blackmailing the said victims as either terrorist or thugs.”

Consequently, the NGO requested proper investigation of the police and naval officers over the many allegations.
