A group of religious leaders, comprising Islamic clerics and bishops, were at the national headquarters of the Labour Party (LP), to declare open support for the party’s presidential candidate and his running mate.

Sheikh Muhammad Murtala Muhammad, leader of the Islamic delegation, while addressing addressing members of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by the National Chairman, Barr Julius Abure, said they were rejecting the Muslim/Muslim ticket of the APC because it was against natijal unity and equity.

In his speech, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, leader of the Christian delegation, said it was unfair for Atiku Abubakar, a northern Muslim, to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, another Muslim northerner who had already spent 8 years in power.

He said the only balanced ticket going into the 2023 general elections is the LP ticket of Peter Obi and Datti Baba Ahmed, adding that Nigerians should queue behind the party to rescue the country from its current woes.

Addressing the religious leaders, the National Chairman of LP, Barr Julius Abure, said, “We are under attack, our followers are under attack. We are appealing to Nigerians and religious leaders to pray for us.

“Initially, they said we had no structure. Now they have seen that human beings are the structure. They did not initially take us seriously. Today, in their closet, it is Labour Party they are discussing.”
