326 suspects arrested in 14 months – Niger police

Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Bala Kuryas has announced that at least 326 suspects were arrested for major offences in the last 14 months of his tenure in the state.

The commissioner stated this during his valedictory speech and retirement pull-out parade at the Police Training School in Minna.

He explained that 284 out of the figure were prosecuted while 42 others are being investigated.

According to him, on assumption of office in the state, seven local governments were affected by insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, youth restiveness and pockets of communal clashes of which relative peace has returned to the areas.

The outgoing CP also appreciated the synergy with the other sister security agencies as well as the stakeholders to ensure adequate security of the state.

He advised the federal government to provide adequate equipment, logistics and better welfare package to perform its constitutional role optimally.

Speaking, Niger state Governor Abubakar Sani Bello represented by the commissioner for Internal Affairs and Humanitarian Services, Emmanuel Umar appreciated the outgoing police commissioner, while also describing him as a very committed security officer whose efforts have unified security agencies in the state to ensure better results.
