Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has called for support by the police toward fighting corruption in Sokoto State.

Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, ICPC, Sokoto Office, Mr Garba Idris, made the call when he led officials of the commission on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police in the state Mr Muhammed Gumel, on Thursday.

Idris said that the visit was part of his duty tour to cement the existing relationship between ICPC and other relevant stakeholders in the state.

“We are here to seek the command’s support and enhance our synergy and collaboration in fighting corruption.

“As you know, our work at ICPC cannot be successful without the support of all, particularly the police and the general public.

“Therefore, the police will, no doubt, continue to remain our closer collaborators in order to achieve the commission’s mandate of investigation and prosecution of corrupt cases,” he said.

Responding, Gumel appreciated the ICPC team for the visit, assuring of police support to the commission.

“We are always on same page with ICPC. Fighting criminals and criminality always remains the same thing with fighting corruption.

“Corruption remains the main root of all crimes. As such, if we are able to jointly face the menace of corruption, we can generally address our various challenges,” he said.

Revealed that the ICPC commissioner also paid a courtesy visit to the state command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

Speaking at the command, Idris said that the visit was borne out of the need to interact with the personnel toward addressing corruption-related offences that had continued to remain a greater challenge in the society.

While stating that FRSC and ICPC remained partners in progress, he sought for more support by the commission in the fight against corruption.

Responding, the FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Kabiru Nadabo, assured of the commission’s total cooperation and support for ICPC toward achieving its mandate of stamping corruption out of the society. (NAN)
