Senior Advocate of Nigerian, Femi Falana, has assured Nigerians that the lingering strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will be called off in a matter of days and not weeks.
The senior lawyer stated this at a book launch with the topic,” Breaking Coconut With Your Head,” by Lanre Arogundade on Monday in Lagos.
He stated that the outstanding issue may likely be settled out of court.
ASUU strike has now lasted for more than 8 months over government’s failure to fulfil its own part of an agreement it reached with the union.
Already, the federal government had dragged the union and its leadership to court, and the industrial court had ruled against ASUU’s position, asking it to return to class immediately.
An appeal court has also asked ASUU to call off the strike before it can hear its appeal against the industrial court judgment.
It’s likely that ASUU may call off the strike in obedience to the judgement, but won’t waste time in embarking on another one.
