Lawmaker lauds British-Nigerian lawmaker, Kemi Badenoch’s appointment

Rep. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe (APC-Oluyole) has lauded the appointment of a British-Nigerian lawmaker, Kemi Badenoch, as the Secretary of State for International Trade.

Akande-Sadipe, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs, gave the commendation in a statement on Wednesday in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Liz Truss, the new UK Prime Minister, had on assumption of office on Tuesday appointed Badenoch as the Secretary of State for International Trade.

Badenoch, daughter of Prof. Feyi Adegoke, attended Queens School, Ibadan, during her early years in Nigeria.

Akande-Sadipe said, “Badenoch’s appointment gladens the heart of Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora, as she has put the name of Nigeria in a positive narrative.”

She rejoiced with the British lawmaker and her family on the recognition, wishing her the best in her new office.

The lawmaker expressed hope that Badenoch’s antecedents in government, as well as international relations, would strengthen the Britain and Nigeria’s trade relations.

“It is our hope that your office as the Secretary of State for international trade will be mutually beneficial to your fatherland, Nigeria and deepen the relationship, which both countries have built over the years,” she said.

Akande-Sadipe said she was proud that a female had once again broken the glass ceiling, congratulating UK’s new Prime Minister, Liz Truss.

She wished Badenoch the best in her endeavours, hoping that her tenure would bring socioeconomic stability to UK.(NAN)
