ASUU: Again, Federal govt fails to end strike, meeting ends in deadlock

Must read

The Nigerian government again failed on Tuesday to end the 7 months strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

ASUU had expressed high hope going into the Tuesday meeting with the government representatives, but it ended in deadlock.

The lecturers met with the Professor Nimi Briggs Committee at the National University Commission (NUC) in Abuja, hoping that all issues would be addressed and the strike called off.

But a senior member of ASUU told Channels Television that members of the Briggs renegotiation committee didn’t offer any new thing apart from what has been on the table.

He told the TV station that the committee pleaded with the lecturers to suspend the ongoing strike, promising that their concerns will be included in the 2023 budget.

The three hours meeting consequently ended in a deadlock.

Recall that ASUU began strike on February 14.
