Tanker explosion kills many in Kogi, Lokoja

Some persons have been feared killed after a tanker exploded along Lokoja-Felele-Abuja road in Kogi State.

A DAILY POST report claimed the incident happened on Monday night at about 10 p.m.

An eyewitness told the platform that the tanker, which was fully loaded with petrol, failed break and rammed into other vehicles.

Zources said many persons were burnt beyond recognition, while goods and other property worth millions of naira destroyed.

“Tanker explosion is becoming a continuous ritual in Felele-Lokoja-Abuja road. Many People over the years have lost their lives in Felele as a result of tanker explosion and other road accidents. The Federal Government must do something to put a lasting solution to this nightmare in Felele,” an eyewitness said.

The Kogi State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Stephen Dawulung confirmed the incident.

He denied that many died in the incident, insisting that only one person died as a result of the incident. He also confirmed that two persons who sustained injuries were rushed to the Federal Medical Center, Lokoja for medical attention.

According to Dawulung, other victims of the incident escaped.
