Yoruba group charges South West governors to allow citizens carry guns like Zamfara

Must read

Following the decision by the Zamfara State Government that it will now approve gun licenses for citizens of the state, the council of the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland has said the decision was a positive and welcome one.

The government had earlier approved that individuals can carry firearms for defence against terrorists.

Reacting in a statement on Monday, the Gbonka Aare-Onakakanfo, Gboyega Adejumo advised South-West governors to take a similar step in order to get criminals and terrorists out of their states.

The Yoruba group said that the decision of the Zamfara state government should be an eye-opener, warning governors from the region to stop tolerating the activities of terrorists “masquerading as bandits and kidnappers, killing innocent people at will”.

“Taking up arms in self defence is a global practice that should be encouraged, once it is backed by the law.”

“There’s nothing bad if citizens take up arms to defend themselves”, the statement read.

The council also hailed the Lagos government over iof ban on commercial (Okada) riders in some parts of the state.
