Security agencies uncover IEDs in Niger community

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has announced that security agencies have uncovered explosives planted today by Boko Haram insurgence in Galadima-Kogo, Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.

The governor made the revelation during a visit to the Internally Displaced Persons,IDPs, camp in Central Primary School Gwada, Shiroro Local Government.

Bello explained that the police in the state are working tirelessly to detonate the booms planted by the sect in the area early morning of today.

“We have the Boko Haram elements around Shiroro, that I understand planted IEDs at 4 am this morning at Galadima Kogo. The Police are trying all it’s best to go and detonate the IEDs.”

“Overall, I am happy with the progress made by the security agencies, their new strategies and tactics is working, but the size of the state is a disadvantage and the number of security personnel on ground is not enough. We are to work on getting more men on ground and other components,” he stated.

The governor assured the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the state that the government is working to ensure that they all return to their various communities in two weeks.

He decried the activities of informants whom he said that many of them have been arrested by security operatives in the state in the last few weeks and would be severely dealt with.

Bello stated that there were about 4, 000 IDPs in Gwada camp made up of those displaced by the activities of bandits and water backwash as a result of work on the ongoing construction of Zungeru Hydro Dam.

“We have those displaced by bandits and water. Both cases are very serious and severe situations. You can see in a primary school like this, we have over 4,000 people. We are more concerned that the pandemic can easily spread around here”.

He further explained that those displaced by the construction of Zungeru Hydro Dam are yet to be compensated by the Federal Government while appealing to Federal Ministry of Power to as matter of urgency compensate the affected communities.

Speaking, the District Head of  Galadima-Kogo told the Governor that they were pressed to return to their Communities with the rainy season fast approaching to prepare for the next farming season.
