Niger students threaten to shut down state in protest over alleged poor handling of education

The National Association of Niger State Students, NANISS, has given the state government a six-day ultimatum to address its demand or face mass students protest in the state.
The National President of NANISS, Comrade Saliha Buhari gave the ultimatum during a press conference in Minna, Niger state, decrying the state of the education sector in the state.
Comrade Saliha Buhari explained that what the students of the state want from the government is to declare a state of emergency on the education sector which has been relegated to the background.
She lamented the situation of primary school teachers in Niger state who have been on strike for the past eleven weeks over the payment of percentage salaries.
NANISS National President also alleged that in the last 39 months, Niger state government only allocated scholarships nine times which were all below N20 million usually allocated for students within and outside the state of approximately 1.2 million.
She lamented the non-release of both NECO and WAEC results of candidates from 2020  to 2021 due to the failure of Niger state government to pay some pending balance for previous years even as those of their counterparts from other states have been released.
Saliha Buhari explained that during the protest, they will block all major roads leading to the southern Eastern and Northern parts of Nigeria if their demands are not met.
