Middle Belt Alliance, a political group under the auspices of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) has decried the alleged meddlesomeness of some PDP Governors in the functioning of the party’s National Working Committee, warning that the trend poses a grave threat to efforts of the party to return to power in 2023.
In a statement issued in Makurdi in response to development within Osun state chapter of the party, the Coordinator of the group, Dr Ishaku John wondered why both Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Mohammed of Bauchi would counter the directive of NWC on the holding of Adhoc delegates Congress in Osun state.
“It is a direct breach of PDP constitution for a governor to issue directives to a committee with a mandate officially given by the party leadership. Imagine a governor stopping a committee set up by the NWC from performing its functions? Where does Governor Makinde derive the power to direct an NWC committee on what to do and how to do it?
” Imagine a governor stopping the holding of a Congress duly approve by the NWC without the directive of the National chairman. This type of conduct should stop forthwith. While our governors are important, they must remain a positive factor, not agents of destabilization.
” The report of what happened on Osun Adhoc Congress is an affront on the national chairman of the party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu. It is a show of disrespect by governors who should know better. By every standard, Dr Ayu our leader is eminently qualified to lead the party. He should be allowed to address the problems of the party without all these
Insulting interference.
” We urge the governors to allow Dr Ayu to administer the party alongside his NWC members. The new party leadership is doing well and we don’t need another show of impunity from any quarters. Specifically, we appeal to Governor Makinde to avoid disruptive interference in the affairs of other state chapters of the party.
” The result of interference in Ondo election is clear. PDP lost the state because of meddlesomeness from the Oyo state governor. We cannot afford to lose Osun. The NWC should be allowed to conclude its rightful duty of peacefully resolving Osun PDP questions”, the statement noted.
