Must read

The National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said, on Wednesday, that it seized 250 cantons of expired beverages in Sokoto state.

NAFDAC Coordinator in Sokoto State, Mr Adamu Garba, told the NAN that the seizures were made from raids it carried out to rid the state of unregulated and expired products.

He listed some of the confiscated beverages to include juice, flavoured and carbonated drinks.

Garba said the exercise was conducted at the Sokoto central market, saying that such operations would continue to cover all markets, supermarkets and provision stores in the state.

He said that the effort was part of the agency’s mandate to safeguard the health of the nation.

The NAFDAC official appealed to the general public to report any retailer selling expired or unregistered products to either NAFDAC’s office or the nearest constituted authority.

He added that the agency had also embarked on extensive audit of all bakeries in the state, especially those located in the rural areas.

The Coordinator explained that the exercise was to ensure that people were patronising only safe and wholesome products.

Garba added that the exercise would be a continuous one, to ensure producers adhered to sanitation, hygiene and other good manufacturing practices.
