Dr Adetokunbo Pearse, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, says there are better days ahead for the party, with the inauguration of its new National Working Committee (NWC).
Pearse, the Convener of Reset Lagos Peoples Democratic Party, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.
He was reacting Friday’s inauguration of the Dr Iyorchia Ayu-led PDP NWC.
According to him, PDP has survived disintegration and now has an opportunity to bequeath a progressive country for the future generation.
“PDP has learnt its lesson from being in power and from being in opposition.
“It has been tested, it has tasted and can be attested to.
“Our best days are ahead. We still have an opportunity to leave a progressive country for the future generation,” Pearse, the 2019 SDP Governorship Candidate in Lagos State, said.
According to him, Ayu has advised PDP members to keep hope alive.
“The new National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party is advised to not only read, but also digest and embrace the recommendations of its Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu.
“Members of PDP National Working Committee must not eschew the principle of democracy in all its tenets.
“They must listen to opinions from the length and breadth of the country.
Pearse urged the new PDP national officers to appreciate the benefits of restructuring, which he explained as decentralisation of public offices for easier access.
He said that restructuring also implied devolution of powers to states to enable them to enforce laws enacted by their state assemblies.
According to him, restructuring of Nigeria also entails diversification of the economy to empower states to explore, develop and market their natural resources for economic development.
