Fayemi Takes Over As Ekiti Governor

Former Minister of Mines and Steel, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has been sworn-in as the governor of Ekiti State.

Fayemi, who won the July 14 governorship election held in the state on the platform of All Progressives Congress was sworn-in on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti.

He defeated the then Deputy Governor of the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Professor Kolapo Olusola, and other candidates to emerge the winner of the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared that Fayemi polled 197,459 votes, while, his closest rival, Olusola got 178,121 votes.

The 53-year-old governor is a native of Isan-Ekiti in Oye Local Government of Ekiti State.

Afri Post recalls that though his second term as the governor of the state, Fayemi was defeated by Mr Ayodele Fayose in 2014.

The state Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, administered the Oath of Office on Fayemi on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti.

NAN reports that the Fayemi, a former Minister of Mines and Steel, was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress with 197,459 votes, against his closest opponent, Prof. Kolapo Olusola of the Peoples Democratic Party who scored 178,121 votes.

He will serve for only four years, having been governor of the state between 2010 and 2014 under the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria.

NAN reports that President Muhammadu Buhari was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha.

Also present were the governors of Kaduna, Nasir el-Rufa’i; Oyo, Abiola Ajumobi; Kebbi, Atiku Bagudu, and Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode.
