Defection: Atiku’s son Adamu quits Fintiri’s cabinet

Must read

Alhaji Adamu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State, pulling out of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s cabinet.

Adamu, who had initially held back from joining the wave of defections that swept through the Fintiri administration last Friday, formally announced his exit on Monday, declaring that he had stepped down from the state executive council with immediate effect.

In his resignation letter, which was made available to journalists on Monday night, the former commissioner said his decision was reached after “deep personal reflection and careful consideration.”

He expressed gratitude to Governor Fintiri for the privilege of serving in his cabinet, and also thanked the people of Adamawa State for their “steadfast prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support” throughout his tenure.

Adamu’s resignation came days after Fintiri, on Friday, February 27, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), taking along virtually his entire administration in a sweeping political realignment.

At the time of Fintiri’s defection, Adamu was among only three commissioners who refused to follow the governor across to the APC.

In all, 22 commissioners, 39 special advisers, and the entire state executive committee of the PDP in Adamawa State joined Fintiri in the mass movement to the ruling party.
