Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed 10 suspected ISWAP fighters while repelling coordinated attacks on three military formations in Borno State between February 28 and March 1, 2026, according to the military.
The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed that the assaults targeted Forward Operating Bases in Mayanti, Gajigana and Gajiram.
However, troops maintained control of all positions after intense exchanges, with additional offensive operations carried out across Sector 2.
At Mayanti, insurgents launched a heavy assault late on February 28. Reinforcements reportedly fought through ambushes and improvised explosive device threats to support defending troops.
After the engagement, five bodies of suspected terrorists were recovered.
Furthermore, soldiers seized three PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, two RPG-7 launchers, four AK-47 rifles, two FN rifles and three rocket-propelled grenade bombs, alongside large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition. An officer was confirmed killed during the encounter.
Similarly, at about 1:15 a.m. on March 1, suspected fighters armed with machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and drones attacked Gajiram.
With air support backing ground forces, the troops repelled the assault and recovered three bodies along the withdrawal route.
Recovered items included four AK-47 rifles, five anti-tank bombs, three locally fabricated mortar bombs and one armed drone.
One wounded soldier was evacuated by a Nigerian Army Aviation helicopter for further medical care.
Meanwhile, troops successfully foiled another attempted attack on Gajigana, retaining full operational control of the base.
In a related development, soldiers conducted offensive patrols in Kayawa Village, forcing insurgents to flee and abandon a tricycle, three motorcycles and five bicycles.
Two suspected ISWAP logistics suppliers were also arrested, with drugs and medical supplies recovered from them.
Additionally, during an ambush around Bulturam Corner and Dadingel in Gujba Local Government Area, troops neutralised two more insurgents and recovered two AK-47 rifles and four magazines.
Military authorities stated that all affected locations remain under firm control.
Moreover, the confirmed killing of 10 insurgents and the recovery of heavy weapons underscore ongoing efforts to degrade ISWAP’s operational capacity in the North-East.
