Ondo Police uphold ‘Idanre arrest’, launch probe into alleged corruption

Must read

The Ondo State Police Command has defended its recent arrest of six individuals in Idanre, insisting the operation was lawful and carried out following standard investigative procedures.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the statement was issued on behalf of Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal, who reaffirmed the Command’s firm stance against corruption and misconduct.

The suspects, linked to a purported miracle scam, were apprehended without any breach of operational guidelines, according to the police.

Authorities stated that the suspects voluntarily gave written and video-recorded confessions admitting their involvement, which were obtained in full compliance with the law and will form part of the evidence during prosecution.

In light of allegations circulating online, the police have ordered an independent, transparent investigation and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the review.

Commissioner Lawal also denied ever directing anyone to collect money on his behalf, stressing that such acts violate the ethical standards of the Nigeria Police Force and the Command’s anti-corruption policies.

The Command assured the public of its dedication to community-focused policing and safeguarding lives and property, warning that anyone found culpable after the investigation would face appropriate legal action, while encouraging continued cooperation from residents.
