The Kogi State Government has confirmed that a woman recently rescued from kidnappers has delivered twin girls at an Internally Displaced Persons camp in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, made the announcement on Monday, explaining that the woman’s identity was not disclosed due to security considerations.
Fanwo stated that Governor Usman Ododo immediately approved medical intervention for the mother and her newborns to ensure their wellbeing.
He noted that the governor directed relevant officials, including the State Security Adviser and the Commissioner for Health, to arrange the transfer of the mother and the babies to the State Specialist Hospital for proper medical care and postnatal supervision.
The commissioner added that medical reports indicated that both the mother and the twins were in good health following the delivery.
According to the state government, the IDP facility was created as a temporary support centre where victims rescued from abduction receive treatment, psychological care and rehabilitation services before returning to their communities.
The government further said sustained security operations have resulted in more rescued victims being accommodated at the camp, while commending security agencies for their continued efforts in tackling criminal activities across the state.
