There was commotion at Ikare Junction in Owo, Ondo State, on Sunday night as residents apprehended a man identified only as Joseph after he was allegedly found with several female undergarments.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect was stopped by some youths in the area who claimed he was carrying a white nylon bag containing a number of women’s pants. His full identity had yet to be established as of the time of this report.
A video sighted by AFRIPOST which surfaced online and was shared by blogger Oluwaseun Ogunmola, also known as Ogbeni OB Sugar, captured the moment the man was being interrogated by members of the public.
In the viral clip, Joseph stated that he had travelled from the Akoko axis to Owo in search of employment.
He claimed that he stumbled upon the underwear at a spot where he had gone to bathe.
Offering further explanation, the suspect alleged that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with a mentally unstable woman who, according to him, handed over the nylon bag containing the items.
His account, however, did little to calm suspicions among some residents, who questioned whether he was involved in ritual practices associated with internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo Plus.”
He denied having any connection to such acts.
The situation almost escalated into violence as some aggrieved youths reportedly attempted to assault him before other residents stepped in to prevent a mob attack.
As of press time, it remained unclear whether the suspect had been handed over to security operatives for further investigation.
