Soldiers kill five kidnappers, rescue abducted woman in Plateau

Must read

In a swift military strike, Nigerian security forces dismantled a kidnapping ring in Plateau State, eliminating five suspects and saving a captive woman.

The high-stakes operation unfolded in the remote Angwan Boka area, showcasing rapid response to criminal threats in the region.

Acting on fresh leads, troops from Operation OPEP’s Sector 6 launched the raid late Saturday evening. Intelligence pinpointed the hideout after interrogating two gang members captured just a day earlier.

“We moved fast to prevent any harm to the hostage,” a military spokesperson recounted, emphasising the urgency of the mission.

The woman, Hauwa Suleiman, had been snatched from her home at dawn that same day.

Sources indicate the kidnappers were holding her in a secluded spot in Sopp District, Riyom Local Government Area. Forces arrived around dusk, clashing with the criminals in a fierce gunbattle.

During the confrontation, three assailants were taken out amid heavy gunfire.

The two detained suspects, who were guiding the team, seized the chaos to attempt an escape by grabbing weapons from soldiers.

“Our team acted decisively to neutralise the threat without hesitation,” the spokesperson added, highlighting the soldiers’ quick reflexes.

Recovered from the site were several mobile devices, a small amount of cash amounting to N17,600, and what appeared to be illegal drugs.

These items are now under investigation to uncover more about the syndicate’s operations.

Hauwa Suleiman emerged from the ordeal unscathed. After a brief debriefing, she was safely returned to her loved ones.

“It’s a relief to be home; I thought I’d never see my family again,” she shared in an emotional statement, underscoring the terror of her brief captivity.

Security operations persist in the vicinity as forces hunt down any remaining fugitives. Efforts to eradicate the network continue, aiming to restore peace in Plateau State’s vulnerable communities.

This victory underscores ongoing battles against kidnapping syndicates plaguing Nigeria’s north-central regions.
