President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on Christians across Nigeria to dedicate the Lenten season to prayer, repentance and humility as they mark Ash Wednesday.
In a statement released by Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh to commemorate the beginning of Lent, the Senate President urged the faithful to treat the solemn period as an opportunity for deep reflection and spiritual renewal.
Moreover, he encouraged believers to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation as central themes of the season.
“As we dust ourselves with ashes, let us remember our mortality and the need for humility and repentance,” Akpabio said.
“May this season be a time for introspection, forgiveness, and reconciliation, strengthening our bond with God and with one another.”
He further assured Nigerians that the National Assembly would remain committed to fostering unity through legislation.
According to him, lawmakers under the 10th National Assembly would continue to enact laws designed to promote peace, cohesion and mutual understanding among citizens.
“On our part as legislators, we will continue to make laws that would promote unity, peace, and understanding among all Nigerians,” he added.
Extending his greetings on behalf of his family, constituents and the Senate, Akpabio wished Christians a spiritually fulfilling observance.
“May God bless and guide us all on this Ash Wednesday and throughout the Lenten season,” he said.
