JAMB sets deadline for 2026 UTME registration as over 1.5m candidates enrol

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that registration for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will close on Thursday, February 26, 2026, with no extension planned.

The Board urged all prospective candidates to complete their enrolment on time to avoid missing the examination.

In a statement, JAMB said the sale of e-PINs, a mandatory requirement for registration, will end at midnight on February 26.

Registration at accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for candidates who have purchased e-PINs will close two days later, on Saturday, February 28.

As of February 17, the Board revealed that more than 1.5 million candidates had successfully registered nationwide.

Despite the high turnout, many centres reportedly operate at only 30 per cent of their daily capacity, suggesting that numerous eligible candidates have yet to register.

JAMB stressed that it has the capacity to register up to 100,000 candidates per day, a figure far higher than the current numbers being recorded at registration centres.

“The Board wishes to clearly state that there will be no extension of the registration deadline,” the statement read.

It noted that the UTME schedule forms part of a nationally coordinated calendar agreed upon by all examination bodies in Nigeria.

The Board added that the registration window was structured to ensure a smooth transition to subsequent public examinations, leaving no room for adjustments.

“Consequently, there is no available window for any extension, even if the Board were inclined to consider one,” it said.

JAMB also warned that candidates who postpone registration until the last days may face avoidable challenges and emphasised that no appeals would be entertained after the deadline lapses.

Describing the announcement as a proactive measure, the Board urged all prospective candidates to secure their e-PINs immediately and complete registration at accredited centres.

“All prospective candidates are urged to act now,” it concluded.
