UNILAG graduate found dead in US apartment

Must read

A Nigerian graduate of the University of Lagos, Oreoluwa Odetunde, has been found dead in her apartment in the United States.

It was gathered that the deceased was discovered in her off-campus in accommodation on Thursday.

Odetunde, who graduated with a degree in economics from UNILAG in 2017, was pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Cornell University’s S.C. Johnson College of Business in New York.

She was in her first year of the programme at the time of her death.

The Cornell Daily Sun, a campus publication, reported on that Odetunde was an international student who actively participated in campus activities.

During her time at Cornell, she belonged to multiple student groups, including the Johnson African Business Society, Black Graduate Business Association, and Old Ezra Finance Club.

The publication noted that she held prestigious academic distinctions as a Forté Fellow and Sage Scholar.

Before her postgraduate studies, Odetunde had worked in research and strategy analysis roles with Nigerian financial institutions, including Anchoria Asset Management and Greenwich Merchant Bank.

In a statement posted on LinkedIn, the Cornell Johnson Graduate School expressed grief over the incident.

“We are devastated for Oreoluwa’s family, friends, classmates and instructors and extend our deepest condolences in this difficult time,” the school stated.

The incident brings to three the number of Nigerians who have died abroad in recent weeks.

On February 6, Nigerian footballer, Saburi Adeniji died in the United Kingdom after suffering a critical brain stem injury.

A week earlier, another Nigerian student in the UK, Douglas Izevbigie, succumbed to aggressive leukaemia at a British hospital.
