The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has removed its Birnin Kudu Local Government chairman, Alhaji Lukman Wurno, from office following allegations of misconduct, escalating internal disciplinary action within the party’s Jigawa structure.
Party authorities confirmed that the decision was reached after reviewing complaints lodged against Wurno.
As part of the directive, he has been barred from presenting himself as the PDP chairman in Birnin Kudu pending the outcome of further internal processes.
In a formal communication signed by the local government secretary, Alhaji Lawan Ahmed, the party described the move as necessary to protect its integrity.
“This action is strictly in line with our constitutional provisions,” the statement said.
“We are determined to enforce discipline and ensure that no individual undermines the collective interest of the party.”
Consequently, the chapter announced Alhaji Ibrahim Maigida Halimbe as Acting Chairman. He is expected to oversee party affairs in Birnin Kudu until the leadership issues additional guidance.
Officials insisted that the suspension was not politically motivated but rather part of broader efforts to reinforce accountability at the grassroots level.
“Our structure must reflect transparency and order,” a senior party member said.
“We cannot afford internal lapses as we prepare for future political contests.”
Moreover, party stakeholders urged members to remain calm and united despite the development.
They emphasized that the PDP remains focused on strengthening its local machinery ahead of the 2027 general election.
The latest move underscores ongoing realignments within the PDP at the local level, as the opposition party works to consolidate its base in Jigawa State and reposition for upcoming electoral battles.
