Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has come under heavy criticism after a viral video showed him promising to secure victory for the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming council election in the Federal Capital Territory despite growing insecurity concerns in Kwara State.
In the widely circulated clip recorded at a political gathering, the governor assured party leaders that he and other stakeholders would work together with grassroots influencers to ensure electoral success for the ruling party in Abuja.
AbdulRazaq expressed confidence that voters across the six area councils of the FCT would align with the APC, describing the party as a dependable platform for Nigeria’s progress and future development.
His remarks, however, triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning the timing of the statement as several communities in Kwara continue to grapple with attacks, kidnappings and rising security fears.
The criticism intensified following the circulation of a disturbing video allegedly released by suspected terrorists showing victims from the February 3 attack on Woro in Kaiama Local Government Area.
Reacting to the development, the state government, through the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, said authorities were working with security agencies to analyse the footage and confirm the identities of those seen in the video.
The government explained that conflicting reports on the number of abducted persons had made it difficult to release an official figure, adding that efforts were ongoing to secure the safe rescue of all affected residents and bring perpetrators to justice.
Despite the official response, criticism has continued to trail the governor’s comments, with many citizens arguing that political commitments outside the state appeared disconnected from the urgent security challenges confronting communities across Kwara.
