Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the Office of the National Security Adviser of importing what he described as an odourless and highly dangerous poison into Nigeria.
El-Rufai made the allegation in a public statement, revealing that he had formally written to the National Security Adviser seeking clarification over reports that thallium sulphate was brought into the country by the NSA’s office.
He characterised the substance as extremely toxic and warned that its importation, if confirmed, would raise grave public safety concerns.
According to him, the issue transcends politics and touches directly on national security and public health.
He argued that any government office linked to the importation of a hazardous chemical owes Nigerians a clear and immediate explanation.
“It is deeply troubling if any authority is associated with bringing poison into the country, particularly one that is colourless and odourless,” he said, adding that transparency would help prevent public panic and speculation.
Furthermore, the former governor maintained that his action was taken in his capacity as a concerned citizen.
He said he sought official clarification rather than confrontation, stressing that accountability remains a fundamental principle of governance.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the NSA’s office addressing the allegation.
However, the claim has sparked debate within political and civic circles, with calls mounting for a formal statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding the reported importation.
