Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dedicated his Man of the Year award to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, acknowledging him as the political figure who brought him into prominence.
Fubara made the remark on Friday while receiving the honour at the New Telegraph Award and Dinner Night held in Lagos, where he spoke emotionally about leadership challenges, political pressure and his pursuit of peace amid the crisis in Rivers State.
The governor explained that his decision to adopt what some critics described as weakness was a deliberate choice aimed at preserving peace and ensuring political stability.
According to him, actions often interpreted as weakness were necessary sacrifices to safeguard unity and protect interests he described as important to both the state and the nation.
Fubara also expressed appreciation to his family and residents of Rivers State for their patience and calm disposition during months of political tension that affected governance in the state.
In a statement that may reignite political debate, the governor openly dedicated the award to Wike, his predecessor, stressing that the FCT minister played a decisive role in his political rise.
He stated that regardless of public interpretation, Wike’s support and discovery of him contributed significantly to his emergence and public recognition.
The governor’s remarks come amid signs of reconciliation between both leaders following intervention by President Bola Tinubu, with recent developments, including renewed cooperation with the State House of Assembly and fresh commissioner nominations, indicating efforts to restore stability after months of political crisis.
