The political tension in Rivers State appeared to soften on Sunday night following an intervention by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Sources indicated that the President held a closed-door meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and other influential stakeholders from the state.
Although details of the discussions were not officially disclosed, it was gathered that the engagement was aimed at resolving the lingering political crisis that has strained relations among the state’s key power brokers.
Following the meeting, Governor Fubara was reportedly seen accompanying Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, a development that has fuelled speculation of a possible thaw in their frosty relationship.
Insiders further claimed that the governor made conciliatory moves during the talks, assuring the minister of renewed respect, in what observers view as a step towards political reconciliation in the oil-rich state.
The development has raised hopes among party faithful and residents that the prolonged political standoff in Rivers State may soon give way to stability.
