The Olojudo of Ido-Ayegunle in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Timileyin Ajayi, has announced the arrest of four suspects linked to the killing of villagers in the community.
The monarch said the arrests marked a significant step towards justice for residents who have been living in fear since the attacks.
In a statement on Monday, Ajayi said an Osun State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Ilesha Correctional Centre for 30 days over alleged murder.
He explained that the remand followed a request by the police, who told the court that investigations into the killings were still ongoing.
Ajayi added that the order was granted by Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
The traditional ruler recalled that the attacks occurred on June 15, 2025, alleging that the suspects, alongside others still at large, carried out violent assaults that led to multiple deaths in Ido-Ayegunle.
The victims were identified as Engineer Agboola Sunday, Kingsley Nwagbana, Rasak Adegoke and Olayinka Sodiq.
Ajayi said the community had been plunged into grief by the killings, describing Ido-Ayegunle as a land “bleeding” from the loss of innocent lives, including youths and breadwinners.
He stressed that the community was not seeking revenge but justice, which he defined as thorough investigation, accountability and guaranteed safety for residents.
The monarch called on security agencies and government authorities to ensure lasting peace, insisting that rural communities deserved equal protection.
Ajayi also accused neighbouring Esa-Oke of repeated aggression, maintaining that the people of Ido-Ayegunle had the right to live peacefully on their ancestral land.
He assured residents that peace would be restored, vowing to continue pursuing justice until those responsible were fully held to account.
The monarch disclosed that the case had been adjourned to February 22, 2026, pending legal advice from the DPP.
