A father has stabbed his 23-year-old son, Miracle, to death in a brutal attack that stemmed from family tensions over domestic issues.
The suspect, identified as Iseleto, allegedly lured his son into a bush under false pretences and stabbed him multiple times with a dagger.
The incident was provoked by the son’s decision to rent a separate apartment for his mother (Iseleto’s wife) to shield her from ongoing domestic violence in the home.
This act of protection reportedly enraged the father, who deceived Miracle into following him to the bush, where he carried out the fatal stabbing.
The deceased managed to struggle out of the bush to the road despite his injuries and was rushed to a hospital, but he succumbed to his wounds.
Before dying, Miracle narrated how his father had tricked him into the bush and attacked him.
After the crime, Iseleto fled the community. He reportedly admitted to the act during a phone call from his step-daughter and also contacted relatives, confessing to the killing while threatening to also kill his wife for leaving the marital home and discontinuing the marriage.
Residents described the suspect as a known drunkard and chronic debtor who frequently beat his wife when intoxicated.
Neighbours said that whenever he was drunk, he would demand sexual intercourse with his wife in their one-room apartment in the presence of their children, and beat her upon refusal.
They further alleged that he once attempted to have carnal knowledge of his step-daughter, and when she refused, he drove her out of the house.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident to journalists, adding that the suspect remains at large and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
The tragic event occurred in Osubi community, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
