Bandit kills community elder, abducts six women in Zamfara

Must read

A deadly bandit assault has shaken the Kurfar Danya community in the Bukkuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving one elderly resident dead, six women abducted, and several homes razed.

Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the incident in a post on his X page on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

According to the account, armed attackers stormed the rural settlement late Friday, unleashing violence that residents described as sudden and devastating.

Moreover, the attack reportedly claimed the life of a respected elder popularly known as Baba Kadago.

His killing, locals said, has deepened fear and grief in the agrarian community, where elders traditionally play key roles in mediation and social stability.

Furthermore, six women were taken away by the attackers, raising renewed concerns about the persistent use of abductions as a tactic by armed groups operating across Zamfara’s forested corridors.

Several houses were also set ablaze during the raid, displacing families and destroying livelihoods.

Reacting to the development, a local source familiar with the area said the community was overwhelmed by the scale of the violence and the apparent ease with which the assailants struck.

The source added that residents had long complained of limited security presence and slow emergency response.

However, questions continue to trail the effectiveness of ongoing security operations in Zamfara and neighbouring states, despite repeated assurances by authorities.

Analysts note that porous terrain, intelligence gaps, and inadequate protection of rural settlements have allowed such attacks to persist.

Hence, residents are calling for stronger, community-focused security measures, improved intelligence gathering, and faster response mechanisms to prevent further bloodshed and restore confidence among vulnerable populations.

As of the time of filing this report, official confirmation from security agencies on the Kurfar Danya attack had yet to be issued, while families of the abducted women awaited news amid growing anxiety.
