Police, army sweep Kogi forests, arrest eight criminal suspects

Must read

Security agencies in Kogi State have arrested eight individuals during a large-scale coordinated operation targeting criminal hideouts across the state.

The Kogi Police Command stated that the joint bush-combing exercise involved collaboration among the Nigerian Army, local hunters, and vigilante groups.

Authorities described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to prevent criminal elements from establishing safe havens.

ASP Saliu Afusat, the command’s spokesperson, explained that the suspects were detained at different locations for questioning regarding suspected criminal activities.

“Initial findings suggest some of the arrested individuals may have been acting as informants for kidnapping syndicates,” she said.

“They are in custody, and further investigations will guide appropriate legal action.”

The operation focused on forested and remote areas considered vulnerable to criminal exploitation.

Aerial surveillance complemented ground teams, enhancing tracking of suspicious movements and identification of concealed camps.

“Several bandit hideouts were discovered and neutralised to prevent their reuse,” Afusat added, emphasising the proactive approach to security in the state.

Police Commissioner Naziru Kankarofi reassured residents that the command maintains firm control over the security situation.

He encouraged the public to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to report suspicious activity via the command’s emergency lines: 07038329084 and 08152195982.

“The safety of lives and property remains our top priority,” Kankarofi said, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in curbing crime.
