A commercial motorcyclist was allegedly stabbed to death by a transport levy collector during a dispute over a N100 ticket in the Ijoko area of Ogun State.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, was said to have followed a heated argument between the rider and members of a transport union task force, popularly referred to as agberos.
The killing triggered protests on Wednesday as commercial motorcyclists took to the streets in Lambe, Agbado and Akute, confronting levy collectors and disrupting transport activities across the communities.
A rider, Rasheed, told our correspondent that the disagreement escalated into violence, leaving two persons injured, with only one surviving the attack.
“They were arguing over a N100 ticket. It started as a minor issue but later turned violent. The man who died is an okada rider from Nasarawa,” he said.
Another motorcyclist, Ganiyu, said tension remained high, adding that many riders stayed off the roads in protest, while police intervened to prevent further clashes.
A senior police officer, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the incident, clarifying that it occurred in Ijoko within the Agbado-Sango axis, noting that some suspects were arrested, while investigations continued.
