The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has condemned the recent killings in Kwara State, describing the attacks as unacceptable and deeply disturbing, while warning that the rising insecurity poses a serious threat to national peace and stability.
The lawmaker spoke against the backdrop of a violent attack on Tuesday night on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, where gunmen reportedly stormed the areas and killed scores of residents.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, later confirmed that 75 persons lost their lives in the attack, amid widespread outrage and calls for urgent action by security agencies.
In a related incident, several people were also killed when suspected bandits attacked Abande community in Mbaikyor Ward of Turan, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
In a condolence message personally issued in Abuja on Thursday, Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and the affected communities, describing the killings as a senseless and tragic loss of innocent lives.
She lamented the continued bloodshed across parts of the country, cautioning that unchecked violence could undermine national cohesion and public confidence in government.
“The persistent killings of innocent Nigerians are unacceptable and deeply troubling. My heart goes out to the families who have been plunged into grief by these senseless acts,” the senator said.
She added that protecting lives and ensuring justice must remain non-negotiable, stressing that the safety of citizens should always be the top priority of government at all levels.
Akpoti-Uduaghan urged federal and state authorities to move beyond rhetoric by deploying coordinated, intelligence-driven and people-centred security measures, insisting that those responsible for the attacks must be identified and prosecuted without delay to deter further violence.
