The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the FCT Administration will celebrate the territory’s 50th anniversary alongside the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Wike disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with staff of the FCT Administration as part of activities marking the golden jubilee of the territory.
He said a committee would soon be inaugurated to plan both celebrations, adding that a commemorative compendium on the FCT’s 50-year journey would be unveiled during the events scheduled for about three months’ time.
The minister attributed recent infrastructural progress in the FCT to the support of President Tinubu, noting that development gained momentum after the FCT was removed from the Treasury Single Account.
“Once the FCT was taken off the TSA, we were able to access funds from commercial banks, and that changed everything. That decision laid the foundation for the massive projects people are seeing today,” Wike said.
He also said the Tinubu administration had brought notable improvements to the welfare and career progression of FCT civil servants, particularly opportunities to rise to the positions of Permanent Secretary and Head of Service.
According to him, previous administrations did not achieve such milestones, stressing that the current optimism among workers was tied to deliberate reforms under Tinubu.
Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Richard Dauda, said infrastructural achievements recorded in the last two and a half years were unprecedented in the history of the FCT.
Dauda explained that many inherited projects had been completed and inaugurated, while others were at advanced stages, attributing the progress to the leadership of Wike.
He added that nine projects were inaugurated during Tinubu’s first anniversary in 2024 and 17 during the second anniversary in 2025, expressing confidence that up to 50 projects could be inaugurated by the minister’s third year in office.
